a dream i had a year ago or so, that remains with me:
i am waking from a nap having been up before the sun to do things. i live in a small, tall house with light linen curtains blowing in a warm breeze. it is before noon and i am hungry. there is a dog asleep near my bed and also waking. injured dogs heal and wake from their naps on the other two floors. i open my eyes, simlutaneously breathe and rise face up, left leg steps off the bed and i head toward a bureau for something. the house is warm with a sense that food is made steadily. there is much sky and green through the windows. a slight valley and a wildflower grass field down from the house. a creek, woods and trees and no other houses in view. there are a few some ways away over the ridge. i know they are friendly since i leave the windows open when i sleep.

what if gravity is not what we think?
change is perceived and we call it TIME.
IMAGINE space is a plasma-like substance and TIME is the movement of mass which creates variable waves in all directions. waves create dimensions. whether planets, light or energy – mass is moving and changing. we observe it from our perspective. and so, OUR perspective is TIME. TIME has nothing to do with the actual thing. the observer has an un/knowable effect on the whole and the speed while simultaneously remaining un/able to perceive the whole or speed of things.
RADIUS IS THE DISTANCE BETWEEN A POINT AND ITS ORIGIN.
we will believe anything. we want to explain our universe our perception our history our reality.
IMAGINE if you will, that the current model of two neutron stars or blackholes is wrong. that space is not a fabric or vacuum. space is more like the depth of the sea. IMAGINE waves move in all directions beyond our dimensional perception from forces. not merely in spiraling trails behind, because there is no direction. gravity isn’t what we think. i do not believe the space we measure is the surface (though maybe it is) but more like the depths EXCEPT there is more than gravity working. though from our perspective we can not perceive what it is. IMAGINE the fluid-like substance of Space and imagine that its viscosity changes and moves – like brackish water and the sea EXCEPT instead of salt it is a different pool of atomic matter moving.
things are moving around us and we are moving around things. size has nothing to do with speed, material or reality. from our limited perspective we cannot tell what is moving or in what direction.
we grasp at something.
at calendars
at science
at god
we love living. look at these trees! i love them and the sun shining.
all while lives are worth less than money and there is much disease.
i know the half-dozen people i connected to today smiled for a moment at least.
i can’t tell what is going on.
i am interested in collectively deconstructing all of the major principles we believe and systems we conceive in order to offer different ideas, different ways of doing things, different ways of perceiving- to create a different reality, collectively.

first in site tag #AutoEthnography #ArchiveExcerpt for excerpts from my notebooks. The notebooks are a one-stop for my academic research | choreographic notes | poetry | meeting minutes | sketches | reflection | and dreams. The process of going through the last ten years of these is a ritual of burning things; making art of others; transcribing notes and revisiting somatic learning. It feeds a creative process and reminds me of community. I am grateful for the time with each person during the making of these as they continue. Grateful to process experience and honor its change. Plus- I love my brain (whatevr that is).

i am not
like i have ever been
something different
about every cell of being
thoughts patterned
turn off
new bridges form
a way
to destiny
leave it
to be
a person
becoming
shock and wave
goodbye
comes free
light falls
just so
on the corner of me
my eye
face glows
left tired
by the night
sleep is
somewhere else
for now
i understand
question
everything
i presume
as habits
mount fears
and carry me
tame
they serve
as transport
as path
burning bridge
disintegrate
i cross to escape
nothing in me says i cannot
become more
than i sought
patience has brought action,
new thought.

walkeye and the time-being
Listening to people. Their lives.
Walking home on Sunday I stop to talk to a man and his dog. We speak deeply, quickly. He brings up time and humanity which has me telling him about the interviews I’ve been collecting over the last few years. How the process is “unmooring me” as another friend has put it. He squares his eyes to mine. They change somehow and his being seems to reflect the space around him. He says “You’re lost. You don’t know where you are.” We talk for a short while. A bit about his family, the dog. He tells me about being in the Vietnam War, how our government was “killing the wrong people… innocent people there living on land… it was horrible”. We walk on a bit. He tells me about his recent stroke; his gait and connection to gravity echo his description of this altered state of being. I shift as I listen and stumble on the uneven sidewalk. He reaches out to steady me. His eyes reach out. After a while I need to go as the encounter begins to circle; another element comes in and begins to pile. For the time being, our time unaligns. I feel it, say good evening and walk on. As I do he raises “a penny for your thoughts?” the same moment I call “see you again”.
for the time being
for the time-being
pullquotes
I recently submitted a short paper for a theory and philosophy course with Dr. Harmony Bench that analyzes movement from the cosmic to the cellular. The following lines of my submission she’d underlined. It’s interesting to see where people connect with me. i put the “perception” one in bold below because i love it so.
“The dialogue I direct is one interested in the idea that we (in form and in sense) are weight in time, carved into being by movement”
“… the fleshbody as something other than self – it is an object of our subjective perception”
“What I’m looking at is our place of perception. In that place you are moving. The place is also moving.”
“touch a nerve?” (anonymous)
Listening to the interviews I’ve collected.
Transcribing, re-living, processing with new ideas.
Imagine me as a tree growing lessons by the sun.
Ra
It’s like I’m tripping. Dripping.
Over the last two years I’ve recorded dozens of people, different ages in different parts of the world discussing their ideas of “self/not-self”, “time”, and now a third question I ask – which is about a word i’ve yet to find that for me gets at the idea of : “our un/known form, fleshsoulbeing in lived/imagined, perceived experiences and our place of perception”. i don’t know what the word is and ‘life’ doesn’t fit …
and now 3 – in relation to each, et al:
1. self/not-self
2. TIME
3. form/flesh, body/soul, being-in, lived/imagined, experiential point of perception
why/how is there difference (in us, in life, or in ideas 1.2.3) and why/how is that same?
words can mean anything.
and so when i ask if you want to do an interview of your thoughts on these things, I will ask permission to record our conversation. and if we do i will use your words in any form of text, dance, painting, podcast or made thing i create. you will remain referred to as ‘anonymous’, unless i ask you first.
in february 2017 a dance, inside a participatory environment, inside an audio and art installation made from this gathering will open. 8 dancers: justin, jovita, amy kb, tamie, anna v., mel m., megan d-b., and ava. three collaborators: vita berezina-blackburn, kate sweeney, and sharona udoh. me and a venue, unknown.
whatever happens there will be viewed as my mfa project (thesis).
the gathering and questions continued when i was born and will go on after i’m dead.
“words aren’t actual” (anonymous)
“… my feeling of it: its just one thing: everything everything everything. and so, this communication thing… there’s a temporal sort-of relationship to uhm.., so the separation, there’s a separation thing that happens so that understanding can occur but really, understanding is the thing. its just a thing – everything is [one]; so i like to.. i feel like it gets closer to.. it gets me closer to that thing or whatever when i hear what people think things are. and when you hear a lot of people … ya know?” – Cole
Artist or Healer?
Sometimes we feel a difference in the two.
Sometimes we feel we have to choose.
The only thing we have to fear, is fear of self. Fear itself does not exist without us. Fear does not have a self, it must use ours. Fear of self.

i film in the middle if this dance. i leave the typo if here instead of of because i recently received a deep text that had the typo of if instead of of. funny.
i am amazed by these people.
they have made a dance of nothing but thoughts.
what a grateful bag of water i am. – this “bag of water” is a beautiful reference i stole from a student of mine – not sure i am institutionally allowed to mention their name, but if i am – i will. they described a dancer as moving this way.
i feel… i feel. and i do other things too.
“i don’t get my feelings hurt anymore. they’re not my feelings anyway.” – jerry west
i wonder what does making have to do with feeling? what does feeling do to thinking? or who the flip cares?!!!? i get so tired of asking questions sometimes. it feels good to feel like i know. or that I am known. i do gravitate in the idea that knowdlege is fluid – an orbit where the state of knowledge is changeable – river to ice to air to …
maybe this is why i like to improvise. why i move no distance at all every few years. why i go through cycles, as it were…
i miss my family. they are so close and feel as if far, because time is different just a few hours away. Imagine the difference the further you go – except far enough is your mirror as
the furthest distance looking straight at you, reflects you.
or something. who cares! i miss the kids swimming and fishing and basketball!
i miss my mom! mi familia. it is calling. i’ll see you in a couple weeks., love you all.
until then working school and being life and tossing sleep with deep breaths and learning to notice and so much gratitude my bag of self is too full of water for words.
… water for words.
good title.
good metaphor.
good trade.
